AAMP and PAFA Celebrate Rising Sun Catalogue Launch with Curator Panel and Reception

Philadelphia, PA – The African American Museum in Philadelphia (AAMP) and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) are proud to announce the launch of the Rising Sun: Artists in an Uncertain America catalogue. To celebrate this momentous occasion, AAMP and PAFA are hosting a curator panel discussion and reception on Thursday, September 21 from 6:30-8:00 PM at AAMP’s location at 701 Arch Street.

The Rising Sun catalogue includes essays by Jodi Throckmorton, Khalil Gibran Muhammad, Dejáy B. Duckett, and Judith Tannenbaum that discuss the political, artistic, and metaphorical issues that inspired Rising Sun. Additionally, each of the 20 featured artists’ voices are encapsulated in written statements and interviews.

The panel will be moderated by Assistant Curator: Art of the African Diaspora TK Smith. Co-curators Dejáy Duckett from AAMP and Judith Tannenbaum from PAFA will discuss the newly released catalogue and exhibition. Guests who register for this event will have access to AAMP’s installation of Rising Sun before the panel discussion from 6:00-6:50 PM.

General admission is $5 with free admission for PAFA and AAMP members with advance registration required. Register here to attend this exciting event!
