The exhibit, curated in collaboration with local non-profit arts organization InLiquid, opens with a "Meet the Makers" reception on Friday, September 27, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. The showcase will run through November 15th.
A Sense of Place Through Art
"Sentido de un Lugar" features pieces deeply inspired by memory and the nuances of everyday life, creating a profound sense of place within their work. Albornoz's ceramic pieces and Vega's stylized paintings offer two unique perspectives on culture, ritual, and recreation, highlighting how the commonplace can be elevated into something extraordinary.
Albornoz, raised in Caracas, Venezuela, crafts functional ceramic vessels adorned with scenes of daily life. Her work reflects her appreciation for the simple beauty found in everyday routines. Vega, raised in Puerto Rico, draws inspiration from the tropical landscapes of his childhood. His paintings, often surreal, capture the vibrant interactions of people, animals, and nature that make up daily life on the island.
Celebrating Hispanic Heritage
"The vibrant works of Maria G. Albornoz and Jorge Luis Vega are a welcome part of our Maker Series during Hispanic Heritage Month," said Elizabeth Fricke, Director of Sales & Marketing at Hyatt Centric Center City Philadelphia. "Their art uniquely captures the essence of cultural storytelling through bold colors and imaginative figures, offering guests an inspiring experience that reflects the diversity and creativity of the Hispanic community."
The exhibit enhances the hotel's space and strengthens its connection to local artists and their powerful narratives.
