Rising Sun: Artists in an Uncertain America, a collaborative exhibition with the African American Museum in Philadelphia, is on view at PAFA, showcasing works by 20 celebrated artists that examine the provocative and timely question, “Is the sun rising or setting on the experiment of American democracy?” Visitors are invited to join a free tour of the exhibition at 12:00 PM to experience how the 11 artists in the PAFA side of the exhibition—Shiva Ahmadi, Tiffany Chung, Lenka Clayton, Petah Coyne, Eamon Ore-Giron, Alison Saar, Rose B. Simpson, Sheida Soleimani, Dyani White Hawk, Wilmer Wilson IV, and Saya Woolfalk—explore themes of equality, free speech, and other tenets of democracy. Tickets are limited—advance registration is strongly encouraged.
The Free Museum Day will also include a free tour at 2:00 PM of PAFA’s Historic Landmark Building. America’s first museum building, the story of this iconic building is one of industrial innovation, artistic excellence, and civic engagement. Visitors will also learn how this architectural masterpiece inspired the 11 artists in Rising Sun: Artists in an Uncertain America. Tickets are limited—advance registration is encouraged.
