PHOENIXVILLE,PA/PHILADELPHIA,PA — As Philadelphia takes center stage for the nation’s 250th anniversary, a provocative new exhibition is set to open at The Print Center(1614 Latimer Street),offering a timely lens on the evolving state of American democracy.

OpeningApril 24,2026, America Today: Voices in Contemporary Printbrings together the works of more than 30 artists from across the United States.The collection explores the core principles of the American experiment,including civil rights,social justice,and political engagement,through the unique medium of printmaking.

A National Collaboration

The exhibition is a bridge between the country’s founding past and its complex present.The featured works were developed through six of the nation’s leading print workshops,representing a diverse geographical and cultural cross-section of the American landscape:

  • Coronado printstudio (Austin, TX)
  • Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts (Pendleton, OR)
  • EFA Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop (New York, NY)
  • Self Help Graphics&Art (Los Angeles, CA)
  • Women’s Studio Workshop (Kingston, NY)

Featured Artists and Perspectives

America Today showcases a variety of renowned artists whose works are held in prestigious global collections, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the National Gallery of Art. Featured voices include:

  • Wendy Red Star(Crow’s Shadow): An Apsáalooke artist whose practice is deeply rooted in the histories and lived knowledge of the Apsáalooke Nation.
  • Howardena Pindell(Brandywine): A Philadelphia native and pioneering Black activist whose career includes a tenure as a curator at the Museum of Modern Art.
  • Chakaia Booker(EFA Robert Blackburn): An acclaimed sculptor known for transforming recycled materials into monumental abstract works.
  • Kenny Rivero(Coronado): A Dominican-American artist exploring the intersections of identity, diaspora, and family history.
  • Priscilla Hernandez(Self Help Graphics): A Los Angeles-based artist focusing on Chicana identity and community memory.
  • Alex Callender(Women’s Studio Workshop): An interdisciplinary artist examining the relationships between race, gender, and capitalism.

Exhibition Details
