Your First Dîner en Blanc:Philadelphia's Secret White Party

PHILADELPHIA - You've seen the stunning photos: thousands of people dressed in elegant white, dining at beautifully decorated tables in an iconic, secret Philadelphia location. This is Dîner en Blanc, and while it may seem intimidating for a first-timer, participating in this unique cultural movement is an unforgettable experience. If you're hoping to attend this year's event on Thursday, August 21, 2025, here's a guide to what you need to know.

Philadelphia's Secret White Party

1. How to Get Tickets: The most critical step is to register on the official website, philadelphia.dinerenblanc.com. The process works in phases. Phase 1 is for returning members, Phase 2 is for guests sponsored by Phase 1 members, and Phase 3 is for the general public on the waiting list. Registration for all phases begins on Wednesday, July 16. Sign up now to be on the waiting list!

2. The All-White Dress Code: This rule is elegant and strict: head-to-toe white attire is mandatory. This creates the event's breathtaking visual unity. This year's "100 Years of Gatsby" theme encourages guests to add a 1920s flair—think pearls, feathers, or a boater hat—but the core outfit must be white.

3. What to Bring: The Chic Picnic: This is a self-catered "picnic en masse." You are responsible for bringing:

  • A square, foldable table (of a specific size).
  • Two white chairs.
  • A white tablecloth and white napkins.
  • A picnic basket with your own gourmet meal.
  • Proper stemware and white dinnerware, please (no plastic utensils).
  • A garbage bag to leave your spot pristine.

4. The Secret Location: The location is kept secret until the very last moment. On the day of the event, you will meet your designated Table Leader at a specific departure point. From there, you and your group will travel together—often by foot, subway, or chartered bus—to the secret location, which is then revealed to thousands of guests simultaneously in a moment of pure magic.

5. The Experience: Once you arrive and set up your table, the evening unfolds with traditions like the waving of white napkins to signal the start of dinner, sparklers to light up the night, and dancing under the stars. It's an evening of making new connections and celebrating food, fashion, and community in one of Philadelphia's most beautiful public spaces.

Don't be intimidated! The event is a celebration of community, and the volunteer team and fellow guests are part of what makes the experience so special.
