Shining a Light on CAS
Childhood apraxia of speech is a rare condition that affects a child's ability to plan and sequence the movements necessary for speech. While there is no cure, early intervention through intensive speech therapy and other therapies can significantly improve a child's communication abilities.
The Walk for Apraxia is vital in raising awareness about CAS, crucial for early diagnosis and timely treatment. Increased awareness helps families, educators, and healthcare professionals recognize the signs of apraxia, leading to faster diagnosis and better outcomes for children.
Celebrating Apraxia Stars
This family-friendly event celebrates children's hard work and determination with CAS, affectionately known as "Apraxia Stars." The day includes fun activities, a heartwarming ceremony, and a short, inclusive walk to raise awareness about this misunderstood condition.
Neil Kilby, a father of an Apraxia Star, emphasizes the importance of community support for children with CAS. "Apraxia Stars need a team behind them," says Kilby. "That team includes parents, family members, SLPs, and organizations like Apraxia Kids."
