The 3,000-square-foot space boasts a bright, airy vibe with ample seating and will feature both indoor and outdoor dining options come spring. Signature menu items include tempura fried scrapple with Olive Oil Poached Egg, Truffle Fondue, and Crispy Potato Sticks on a Hoagie Roll and House-made Lamb Sausage with Gorgonzola dolce, Dried Cherries, and Sesame Brittle on a Hoagie Roll. Of course, coffee is just as important as the cuisine, with options like smoked maple lattes, old-fashioned cold brews, and over-the-top cereal lattes!
The Story Behind the Name
Founder Robert Doran was inspired to create Almost Home General during a 24-day, 1,800-mile bike ride from Florida to New Jersey to raise funds for baristas and small businesses. It was his way of returning 'home' after living in Asia, where he had grown to love the family-style atmosphere of many coffee shops. Almost Home General strives to bring that welcoming, comfortable feeling to each of its locations.
Philly Coffee Scene Meets Jersey Know-How
Doran is thrilled to bring his passion for coffee and unique brunch dishes to Philadelphia's thriving culinary scene. Almost Home puts a spotlight on fresh, local ingredients with a menu emphasizing simple dishes done exceptionally well. The coffee selection sources beans from small-batch roasters focused on light roasts and third-wave coffee practices.
Expansion in Partnership with Glu Hospitality
The Old City location marks the seventh Almost Home General and the first in Pennsylvania. Doran has teamed up with Glu Hospitality for this expansion, bringing their expertise to bear. At least three more Pennsylvania and New Jersey locations are already in development.
