Opened as a replacement to Spectrum Arena and owned by Comcast Spectacor (who also own the Flyers), Wells Fargo Center was originally named CoreStates Center after construction, before changing to First Union Center before 1998 and finally Wachovia Center from 2003-2009 - during this time the American Hockey League team Philadelphia Phantoms also used it as home ground until moving their home games to PPG Paints Arena for home game nights at Wells Fargo Center until 2009.
The Philadelphia 76ers have seen some legendary players throughout their history, such as Karl Malone. His enormous heart and skillful handles propelled them to an NBA Championship win in 1983. Other great 76ers include Julius Erving (Dr. J) who was known for improvising on the court with incredible athleticism; longstanding rivalries exist with Boston Celtics that can often be seen nationally televised games;
