The event is organized by Jim Pappas, who has eaten over 1000cheesesteaks. Pappas has enlisted the help of three other experts to help him judge each cheesesteak, including corporate chef Mark Twersky, Amigo Dan Matassino, and Diane Farina, an event coordinator. The competition is sure to bring out the best cheesesteaks and spark a local cheesesteak culture.
There are four regions of cheesesteak Madness: Philadelphia, New Jersey, Delaware County, and The Other Counties. Each region will have cheesesteaks from 16 competing cheesesteak shops. A final round will decide which cheesesteak will be crowned champion!
The Philly cheesesteak is perhaps the city's most famous export. This classic Philadelphia food is served with grilled or fried onion, and it's not uncommon for a cheesesteak to be crowned the champion of the tournament! Griddle-fried beef is topped with melted, gooey cheese. If you're a cheesesteak lover, you should subscribe to PhillyBite Magazine's monthly newsletter.
This month's Cheesesteak Madness competition will feature the top 16 cheesesteaks from all four regions. The winners will be voted on PhllyBite Magazine and judged by a panel of judges.
The regions are; 1. The Philadelphia Region. 2. The Delaware County, Delco, Region. 3. The NJ/DE Region. 4. The Remaining Philadelphia Area County Region.
