A New Chapter for Philadelphia’s Young Voices
The Commonwealth Youth Choir represents a bold evolution in the city's choral history.In 2024,the program successfully integrated the legendaryKeystone State Boychoir and the Pennsylvania Girlchoirinto a single,all-gender ensemble.
Today,the CYC comprises 160 young singers aged 6 through 18.The program goes far beyond vocal technique;it is designed to foster:
- Musical Mastery: Developing elite-level choral skills.
- Personal Growth: Building confidence, discipline, and self-expression.
- Community: Encouraging teamwork among youth from diverse backgrounds throughout the region.
Global Reach:From Philadelphia to the World
The CYC is not just a local treasure;it is an international ambassador for the arts.Over the years,its members have achieved the remarkable feat of performing onall seven continents. The choir has sung for global figures including Popes, U.S. Presidents, and Nobel Prize winners.
Looking ahead,the ensemble is preparing for a majorinternational tour to South Korea planned for the summer of 2026—a journey that current auditionees could potentially join.
Audition Details:How to Join
Auditions will be held throughout the month of January at thePresbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill.
- Dates: Auditions begin January 6 and 7, 2026.
- Final Deadline: January 31, 2026.
- Location: 8855 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA.
- Format: In-person sessions lasting approximately 15–20 minutes.
- Registration: Parents and guardians can schedule a time slot through the official PYCE website.
