Major Street Festivals to Mark Your Calendar
This year features a lineup of huge outdoor celebrations, turning city streets and squares into lively German villages.
- The 17th Annual South Street Oktoberfest, presented by Brauhaus Schmitz, returns on September 27th as the region's largest celebration, taking over the 700 block of South Street with seating for a thousand revelers.
- Across the river, the 8th Annual Oktoberfest on the Square in Westmont, NJ, on September 20th, will feature a massive tent, a traditional pig roast, and live music, promising an authentic German festival atmosphere.
- In Fishtown, the Frankford Hall Oktoberfest on September 20th will shut down the 1200 block of Frankford Avenue for a family and dog-friendly street party with live music from the Polka Brothers.
- The 13th Annual Roxtoberfest on October 4th will bring a traditional German beer fest feel to Ridge Avenue, complete with circus performers, food trucks, and a classic car show.
Brewery-Hosted Celebrations
Local breweries are getting in on the action with their own unique events and special releases.
- Yards Brewing Company will host its Oktoberfest on September 27th, opening up parts of its brewing facility to the public. The ticketed event includes an exclusive 0.5-liter stein, German-inspired beers, and a stein-holding competition.
- Evil Genius Beer Company is launching its inaugural Oktoberfest on October 4th, shutting down Front Street for a 21+ party featuring their own limited-edition German-style beers, live music, and a qualifying round for the official United States Stein Holding Association championship.
Seasonal Beer Releases
Beer enthusiasts have a lot to look forward to with a slate of seasonal releases hitting taps and shelves. Keep an eye out for "Is Butter a Carb?" Pretzel Oktoberfest from Evil Genius, the fan-favorite "Unter Dog" Märzen-style lager from Yards Brewing, and "Bierfest," a traditional Oktoberfest lager from New Ridge Brewing Co. For those who enjoy fall flavors, New Ridge is also releasing "Horror Business," a pumpkin ale inspired by a local haunted house, and Evil Genius is bringing back its "Trick or Treat" Chocolate Pumpkin Porter.
