PHILADELPHIA, PA — Old City’s staple for contemporary American cuisine is trading its street-level views of Independence Hall for a skyline vantage point. Effective immediately, Red Owl Tavern has temporarily relocated its operations to the 11th floor of the Kimpton Hotel Monaco, taking over the space typically occupied by Stratus Rooftop Lounge.

The move comes as the tavern undergoes minor renovations on the ground floor. To ensure service continues without interruption during January and February, the team launched Red Owl on the Roof, a limited-time pop-up concept offering lunch and dinner service daily.

An Elevated Menu

While the setting has changed, the culinary standards remain grounded in quality. Executive Chef Charles Vogt has curated an all-day menu that focuses on hearty, winter-ready dishes and hearth-baked specialties.

Menu Highlights Include:

The pop-up also features artisanal flatbreads made with organic unbleached flour and naturally fermented dough, such as the Winter Truffle + Mushroom ($24) and the Spicy Longhot + Guanciale ($23).

Libations and Lounge Access

The bar program, led by Lead Bartender Christopher Devern, features a selection of seasonal cocktails, non-alcoholic alternatives, and a curated list of spirits, beer, and wine.

The intimate setting is configured to seat 30 guests at tables and 10 guests at the bar. Due to this takeover, Stratus Rooftop Lounge is closed for its standard nightlife service until March 2026, though it remains open for previously booked private events.

How to Visit

Red Owl on the Roof is open daily from 11:00 a.m. until close.

To access the restaurant, guests should enter the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Philadelphia, take the elevator to the 10th floor, and proceed up one flight of stairs to the rooftop level. Reservations are currently available via OpenTable.
